Castle Rock State Park, CA

James and I went climbing with one of his colleagues on Labor Day. As there were 3 of us, I got to do some sketching while they were on the rock. Although it was really hot in the Bay area, up on Castle Rock Park the wind was quite cool. I even had to put on my jumper at one point.

The climbing spot is in the valley so not really easy to find a good sketching subject. I just tried to capture what I could see from where I was. Unfortunately I think my use of watercolor turned out to be too tight. The last two sketches with just ink and brush pen had a more satisfying effect.

  1. Nice sketch of the climbers! And brave of you to climb yourself!

    1. Thank, Tina. I do like drawing climbers. The perspectives are challenging in a good way. The rock isn't that big. James and I usually do multi-pitch climb (which takes 6-8 hours to do one route) but this place only has one pitch routes.
